Overview
Beitbridge is a town situated north of the Limpopo River, which acts as the border between Zimbabwe and South Africa. This small border town relies on traffic to and from South Africa for its survival. Street hawkers thrive on the passing trade, particularly when there are delays at the border. The town is particularly busy nowadays with the high number of Zimbabweans passing into South Africa to stock up on food and other essentials which are frequently unavailable in Zimbabwe due to hyperinflation and resulting shortages. The prostitution trade is thriving in Beitbridge due to the high number of trucks and lorries passing through and being delayed by customs searches. As a result Beitbridge has one of the highest HIV/AIDS rates in Zimbabwe. [Edit]History
