Chiliabombwe

UNRATED

Overview

Chililabombwe, previously known as Bancroft, is in the Copper Belt of Zambia and is the wettest mine in the world. So wet, in fact, that the water can be left running all night to water the lawns free of charge! Chililabombwe means place of the croaking frog. There are many frogs as a direct result of the huge amount of water. An expat community exists here as well as a large Zambian local community. The sewage treatments ponds are right in the middle of the golf course. These ponds are home to crocodiles, an additional golfing hazard! There are a few clubs such as the Tennis Club, Squash Club etc usually used by the expatriates. There is also a cinema and a Theatre club, used for amateur dramatics. Other than that, there is very little to do here. For amusement one would have to travel elsewhere.
