Overview

The remains of Plantation houses, distraction free countryside and extensive coastal sections will provide the visitor with an opportunity to discover the past or relax with ease. See where the first shots of the American Civil War were fired at Fort Sumter near Charleston Harbour, the impressive and popular South Caroline Aquarium in Charleston itself or the Capital Building in state capital Columbia. While inland the visitor is unlikely to be disturbed by too much while the coast offers both seclusion and frenetic goings on. The large resorts of Myrtle Beach, the Isle of Palms, Kiaweh Island, part of the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge at Bulls Island with surf fishing and near desertion and the beach homes of Pawleys Island should mean that no one is left disappointed. Slightly different attractions are the Indian Shell ring at Sea Pines Forest Reserve on Hilton Head Island, the Hunting Island Lighthouse and the 80,000 acres of state parks where a variety of outdoor activities can take place.
