Maryland
Overview
A state that produced the National Anthem, donated land for Washington, D.C. and whose capital Annapolis has housed the US Naval Academy for over 150 years certainly shows its patriotic side. In the same city the colonial past is evident and is often considered the sailing capital of the country as a whole. In addition Chesapeake Bay can be reached easily. A variety of water sports including kayaking and white water rafting or hanging out on the beach might be welcome after some time in the state’s most populated city, Baltimore. Here the visitor can enjoy the Top of the World Observation Level of the World Trade Center, the National Aquarium and the Maryland Science Center. An easy way of seeing a great deal of the state is on one of the 31 scenic highways. The requirement for these is that they fulfil at least one of the following criteria: historical, recreational, geological, cultural, scenic or archaeological. These should give an impression of some of the things that can be seen. If crowds are not a problem, then the beach resort of Ocean city will be a great deal of fun. This is not only because of the party atmosphere that is frequently prevalent but the delicacy of blue crab that can be tried in a range of forms.
