Overview

Whether the visitor enjoys the vestiges of early settlers such as the German Amana colonies or the tulips of the Pella or simply make an attempt of the maze made of corn near Des Moines, they will find something to keep themselves busy. The state is almost entirely agricultural, but this should not lull the visitor into thinking that there is not a great deal to do. There are many museums, some of which are rather unusual such as the South Amana Barn Museum, the Des Moines Arts Center and the Fort Musuem. The carefree visitor may wish to indulge their risk taking side on one of the gambling riverboats or if they prefer something rather less prone to taking their money, then the Effigy Mounds National Monument and the Loose Hills Scenic Byway are options.
