Overview

Lewes, Delaware was first settled by the Dutch in 1631, and as such was the first settlement in Delaware.  Lewes offers a wealth of historic, nautical and recreational activities that reflect on its location at the intersection of the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean.

Bay and ocean beaches in and near Lewes, Delaware provide swimming, fishing, boating and a host of other watersports.

Beaches, nature trails, bird sanctuaries and the Seaside Nature Center can all be found at Cape Henlopen State Park just outside of Lewes.

And the Cape May-Lewes Ferry is an unforgettable way to cross the Delaware Bay from Lewes to Cape May, New Jersey.
