Chaguanas

Overview

This is the main place for sailors to come after the ocean crossing, great port facilities at quite cheap prices. Try the short journey along the Macaripe Mail Road and stop to walk in the bamboo cathedral. Much photographed, this stretch of the rain forest has bamboo lining the road and forming a gothic arch. Further along is the beach, overlooking the North, it is a calm swimming area which is empty during the week but popular with locals at the weekend. The town has a big party in january. There are dozens of steelband groups that are in town.
