One and a half hours North of Chiang Mai, Chiang Dao is a beautiful, peaceful, mountainous area.
In the close vicinity there is trekking, bamboo rafting, hiking, elephant rides, elephant shows, many different groups of mountain people (hilltribe villages), abundant nature, Thailand's 3rd highest mountain, mountain / forest temple, Meditation possibilities, and that's without mentioning it's most famous asset the Chiang Dao Cave.
There are a few little resorts dotted around the area.
