Samoa Health
Health
Health Samoa is a Malaria free zone. However, there are occassional outbreaks of Dengue Fever and so precuations should be taken such as Mosquito nets and Insect repellent. There are no known poisoness animals or insects. Safety Samoa is a largely safe destination. Crime rates are low and people very helpful and friendly. However, like anywhere, petty crime does occur and sensible precautions should be taken. The main area of concern is that of Dogs. Tourists have been bitten, although this should not deter a potential traveller. An encounter isn't likely for a visit of one or two weeks, but should not be ruled out. Dogs of Samoa tend to work in packs. A wrong move could trigger a dangerous chain of events. It is therefore important you know how to behave if such an incident occur. Stay calm if approached. Walk slowly, and in a non-threatening manner. Do not run. If attacked, bend down as if you are picking up a rock. Another option is to carry a long pointed object, such as an umbrella. Take taxis everywhere from dusk onwards. It is not adviseable to walk far at night, as Dogs reach their most dangerous at this time.
