Puerto Maldonado

Overview

Another bustling jungle town. The main transportation is on motorbikes and mototaxis. Just stick your hand out anywhere in town and someoe will pck you up on the back of their bike and take you to your destination for 1-2sols. A few small hostels in the middle of town, a more expensive lodge by the river and Brombu's hotel a couple of minutes outside town towards the airport. Brombus is run by English speaking Fernando and his family who also runs Taricaya lodge, a volunteer centre a couple of hours down the Madre de Dios River. There are a couple of clubs in Puerto Maldonado both of which are quite happy to let you in wearing walking boots! Trips to the jungle can be easily arranged from the town.
