Oman
Overview
Separated from the UAE by the Hajar mountains, and separated from the rest of the Arabian peninsula by the inhospitable Empty Quarter, Oman is a world away from the oppressive petro-dollar cities elsewhere in the region. Picturesque towns overlooked by ancient forts, tropical river valleys lined with date palms and traditional Arabic architecture greet visitors to Oman. Rumoured to have diving that rivals the Red Sea, even those looking to do more than relax on one of the many beautiful beaches will have something to do.
[Edit]History
In 1970, QABOOS bin Said Al Said ousted his father and has ruled as sultan ever since. His extensive modernization program has opened the country to the outside world and has preserved a long-standing political and military relationship with the UK. Oman's moderate, independent foreign policy has sought to maintain good relations with all Middle Eastern countries.
