Niue Getting There & Away

Getting There & Away

Air: The easiest way to arrive in Niue is by plane from Auckland. Be careful not to schedule your flights around religious holidays such as Easter, as seats are often at a premium since many Niueans return home at these times. Air New Zealand is the only airline to fly into Niue using scheduled services with only one flight a week. Royal Tongan Airlines (WR) provides flights to Niue from Tonga with connections from Auckland New Zealand and from Sydney Australia via Auckland. International airport: Niue International (IUE) (Hanan) is 7km (4 miles) north of Alofi. Tour buses are available from the airport to all tourist destinations. There are some shops at the airport open for scheduled flights. Departure tax: NZ$20. Children under 5 years are exempt. Sea: Niue has no natural harbors. It is possible to visit Niue by yacht; weekday arrivals are preferred. Moorings and buoys are available.
