Staveren

Overview

With only 995 inhabitants Stavoren (Staveren or Starum in Frisian) is small but it is still the oldest city of Friesland. Located on the shores of the IIsselmeer, it received city rights in 1118.

Around the old harbor there are a few cute streets where you can wander around and feel like you are back in the 17-th century.

Stavoren is connected with Enkhuizen on the other side of the lake by a ferry service.
