Overview

To see the roof of the world you should come to Sagarmatha National Park, where the Everest is.

There are lots of possibilities to go there; the easy way or the long way. You can fly to Lukla and walk to Basecamp Mount Everest, Kalapathar, Gokyo Peak and many more. The trip to for example Basecamp then will take you about six days with lots of tourist on the way.

For the real experience you should go to Jiri by bus and take a long walk to Gokyo peak (about 14 days) and fly back from Lukla (another 4 days to there). The first part you will see allmost no tourists and the scenery is great. (note: -december 2004- You will meet Maoists in the first days, this is no problem if you pay about 10 Euro). After passing Lukla you will see more tourists but most go to Basecamp Mt.Everest, so on the way to Gokyo it's less crowded. From Gokyo ri or the fifth lake the view is just great...!!!!

When you are up there you can also do other peaks or trails, so you can stay there for weeks if you'd like.

Passports and entry fees are paid at the entrance at Monjo. Nepali Nationals: Free Children under 10: Free Foreign Nationals: Rs 1000 SAARC Nationals: RS 100
