Pamplemousses

Overview

Near Pamplemousse, make sure you spend a fascinating hour or so exploring the delightful Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolan Botanical Gardens (quite a mouthful, but named after Mauritius's founding father).  The gardens date back to 1735 and their most important feature is the astonishing variety of palms from all over the world, while the centerpiece is a large, shady, tranquil pond filled with giant water lilies from the Amazon . (Contributed by Howard Banwell)
