Santa Margherita Ligure

Overview

Santa Margherita Ligure is a well-known and fashionable holiday resort, which lies in the Gulf of Tigullio, along the two little bays of Corte and Santa Margherita, delimitated by the harbour and by Cape Pagana. To the west the rocky coast is interrupted by little inlets, among which there is Paraggi, with a strip of sandy beach. Eastwards, beyond Cape Pagana, the coastline is still characterized by rocks sheer to the sea, with the two short beaches of Preto and San Michele.

History

Santa Margherita Ligure lies close to secluded villages and beautiful beaches but away from prowling tourist throngs. Blessed with the character and affordability of a small town, it has the accessibility of a large one, with enough "pensioni" that travelers can drop their backpacks here and spend some days axploring the more exclusive nooks.
