Kumasi
Overview
Kumasi is the heart of Ashanti country. The palace of the Ashantehene (Ashanti king) now functions as one of the largest cultural centres and is the biggest tourist attractions in town.
Other sights include an old fort, one of the countries major universities, the zoo and the lively central market.
Kumasi is an excellent base for exploring the North of Ghana. It is situated in the middle of Ghana with Gateways to the Brong Ahafo, and Northern Regions of Ghana. It has a good tourist infrastructure with many accommodation facilities and restaurants. It is also a major travel hub. Bonwire, Owabi Wildlife Resort and Lake Bosumtwi are good daytrips.
