Rüsselsheim
Overview
Rüsselsheim is the largest town in the Kreis Gro-Gerau in the Rhein-Main-Gebiet. It lies beside the river Main not far away from the mouth into the Rhein at Mainz.
Rüsselsheim has 59.656 inhabitants (30.06.2002), a lot because of the big employer Opel.
In the year 1868 Adam Opel founded a sewing-machine-factory. After the death of Adam Opel his widow and his sons startet later, at 1898 the first cars.
In addition to the Opel-Factory an other reason for a lot of commuters and some companies to settle in Rüsselsheim is the very good transport-connection to Frankfurt/Main, Wiesbaden, Mainz and Darmstadt via highway, train and a rapid-transit railway.
To Rüsselsheim belong the suburbs Bauschheim and Königstädten.
