Rothenbürg

Overview

Rothenburg would be incredibly Kitsch if it wasn't real. It's old, it's medieval and was not built to please but just built as a town to live in. Now, however it is a sort of a disneyland attraction you should not miss if you are into this kind of thing. On the Romantic Road going through the south of Germany, Rothenburg is a must see.

A walk through the city is just like a "time tunnel". Not only stately towers, massive fortifications and patrician houses but also the historical festivals will bring you closer to the spirit of the middle ages. Rothenburg is most busy during Christmas times, when there is a Christmas market in town. May and September can also be pretty crowded.
