Gori

UNRATED
[Edit]

Overview

Although featuring an impressive fortress partly dating back to roman times, Gori's main claim to fame is Iosif Visarionovich Jagashvili, aka Joseph Stalin, who was born here in 1879 and lived the first 15 years of his life here. Gori is the last place on earth where they have a statue for this dictator.

The city (65.000 inhabitants) is not unpleasant and has some typical Georgian areas. There's a lifely market around the bus station where local produce is sold.
