Marseille Getting Around
Getting Around
BUS/METRO When you arrive at the airport there is a bus service that will take you to the rail station in the centre of town - Gare "Saint Charles". From here there are excellent links on the Metro System to get all round town. You can buy a 'carnet' to help save some cash or get a ticket for a number of days.
ON FOOT Walking around Marseille is also very easy, get yourself a good street map and head out! The streets are generally well posted and we found some excellent view points on hill tops, hidden markets in squares and beautiful buildings that we simply would never have come across had we been underground. Just wander, it's quite difficult to get lost.
TRAIN There is a little train from the "vieux port" that runs around all the major tourist sites in Marseille - up to the Notre Dame adn round the fort etc. whilst we didnt actually go on it (mainly due to lack of time and disorganisation) it seems like a nice way to see everything in about a one and a half hour round trip. Its open sided, and has a commentary. you can get on and off as you please and re-board the next service if you wanted to spend a little time exploring.
