Ribe
Overview
Ribe is Denmark's oldest and best preserved town. Visitors will find an entire medieval town centre with old half-timbered houses and cobblestone streets. The eye is continually caught by new impressions; the cathedral rises at the end of the street at one moment, and at the next there is an unexpected glimpse of flat salt meadows with grazing cattle.
Although the town is full of reminders of the past it is still a pretty lively place. Energetic young people make sure that there is life under the red-tiled roofs and in summer the atmosphere in the town square is almost Mediterranean. Ribe is a hive of activity all year round.
Visit the many museums and churches, take an excursion to the Tidal Flats or Mandoe where nature shows her strength. Visit a multitude of inviting shops - and perhaps work up an appetite for a delicious meal in one of the many restaurants and cafés.
