Rovinj
Overview
The Old Town has been compressed onto a narrow peninsula is filled with steep meandering lanes, cobbled squares and culture. The natural beauty of the Rovinj coast and the surrounding twenty-two islands and islets have made Rovinj a popular tourist destination.
The 18th century baroque style Cathedral, the largest in Istria, of St. Euphemia stands at the top of the hill and it’s slender bell-tower watches over the historic town.
The string of islands surrounding the city makes for a perfect day out. The most popular islands are the Crveni Otok (Red Island) and Katarina Island which are both forested, supply sun and the crystal clear Adriatic ocean. The Punta Corrente Forest Park located south of the Town offers similar opportunities. The most dramatic site near to Rovinj is the Limska Draga Fjord, a 9km inlet ~500m wide although there is little to do and unless you have a car you will have to book an organized tour.
There are many reasonably priced hotels with spectacular views either sitting in the Old town or on the surrounding wooded hillside.
