Róbinson Crusoe

Overview

Over 500 km west of Valparaiso Robinson Crusoe island is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Although it's a small island, with 500 inhabitants, it has rainforest, volcanic cliffs and dry plains. The main sight is undoubtedly the Plazoleta del Yunque. This is the historic place where the Dresden's sailor who inspired Daniel Defoe to write Robinson Crusoe lived for 12 years after his ship was sunk during the First World War. San Juan Bautista has a few places to stay - it is a boat ride of about one hour from the airstrip where the planes to Santiago leave.
