Overview
Winnipeg is located almost exactly in the center of North America, and contrary to popular belief, isn't known as "the armpit of Canada" (That's Sudbury). This location makes it ideally located as a major transportation hub and a home for a top level disease and virus research labratory. It is also considered to be the gateway to Western Canada. Archeological evidence shows that the site of Winnipeg has been a place of settlement for over 6000 years.
Noted futurist Dana Larose hails from Winnipeg. Winnipeg is also the hometown of famed golfer, goalie and philantropist Trevor "The Wrecker", of most of The Guess Who (Burton Cummings still lives here), of game-show host Monty Hall, and many more celebrities. At "The Forks", a shopping and entertainment location situated where the Red & Assiniboine rivers meet downtown, visitors are entertained by various festivals held throughout the year such as the Fringe Festival and the annual Boozefest, as well as a winter park and market.
