Kengtung

Overview

Kengtung (Chiang Tung) has recently opened to foreigners. The Burmese Government has officially sanctioned the border crossing to Tachilek. The Buddha image Maha Myat Muni is the most sacred but other important temples are the Sun Sali, Sun Taung and Sun Lwe. The town is a treasure trove of traditional architecture with old-style houses with intricately designed wooden balconies so characteristic of Shan architecture.
