Kanye

Overview

This traditional town is the jewel of Botswana. Located along the Trans Kalahari Highway or the A2, Kanye is the Capital City of Bangwaketse, one of the most influental tribes of Botswana. This town has cultural wealth second to none in Botswana. Historical buildings dating back to the last century are still standing and can be seen in many parts of the town. this include the majestic UCCSA (former LMS) church building (Built 1894), Lutheran church building (former museum) and other royal buildings at the main kgotla. The landscape is the only one of its kind amongst traditional towns of Botswana and the flatest area is in Ntsweng (very unique as this is situated at the top of a hill.

This great Bangwaketse City  offers hreat scenic views, great weather and rich vegetation. A lot of stories and myths exist about various place in Kanye. One of this myths is that there is a great snake which lives in Mmakgodumo Dam and the other lives in Kgwakgwe. This town is a true cultural scentric place. The residents are proud of their culture and one of the few tribes in Botswana which still show much respect to the Royal House and they are led by a great and brave Ngwaketse King, Seepapitso IV.
