Overview

The municipality of Bihac is situated in the north-west part of B&H. Its area is 689 square km. From B&H side, it borders on the municipalities of Cazin, Bosanska Krupa, Bosanski Petrovac and Drvar, and from Croatian side, on Donji Lapac, Korenica and Slunj. The relief of the municipality of Bihac is diverse. It is mainly made up of fields, hills and middle-size mountains. Average sea level is 231 m. A large part of the municipality of Bihac is rich in waters: springs, streams and rivers. Total length of the Una River watercourse in the area of the municipality is 80 km. The area of Bihac has a moderate mountainous type of climate which is diverse because of the influence of air masses from neighbouring and distant areas. Summers are hot and dry, and winters are cold with a high rainfall. Average annual rainfall is 1,245 mm and average monthly temperature is 10,8° C - mean temperature in January is 0,4° C and average temperature in July is 21° C. During the calendar year there are 80 days with sub-zero temperatures. Frost appears October through April and snow November to April. Frost is a characteristic of Bihac field, especially in Gorjevac and Dubovsko. Nort-western and south-eastern winds prevail - gale and south winds. Pedological blanket is diverse.
