Overview
La Rioja, the capital of the province with the same name is located in the west of Argentina, close to the border with Chile. The city is set at the foot of Velasco mountains and it is an excellent base for exploring the valleys, mountains, rivers and narrow passes of the region.
Nice detail: notorious ex-president of Argentina, Carlos Menem, is from La Rioja and used to govern this province for many years.
Another detail: in the province of La Rioja good wine is being produced.
