Antarctic, The
Overview
Antarctica is the southern most continent and is comprised of the main Antarctic landmass and numerous small islands surrounding it. Despite many territorial claims by numerous nations of the area, the majority of which have now been suspended under the terms of the Antarctic treaty, the Antarctica Country Guide covers this in more detail.
Covered by ice and riddled with crevasses the landscape is unique and unforgiving. However, even in this most inhospitable and practically uninhabited land numerous species of Penguins, including the mighty Emperor Penguin and several types of seal manage to survive which can all be seen in their natural habitat.
Whilst Antarctica is out of the way, difficult to reach and expensive to do so, it offers a distinctive experience.
