Algiers

Overview
Algiers, the capital, is quite an attractive city. The old town, known as the Casbah, is a maze of pretty small alleys and whitewashed houses. There are quite a few nice boulevards dating back from the days of the French, who come in Algiers in 1830 and stayed for 130 years. For a great view of the city and its bay drive up to the Couvent d'Afrique. The lookout is high on a hill and the view from there is exceptional. Daytrips from Algiers include Chrea (where you might be able to ski), Chiffa Gorge the towns of Tipasa , Djemila and Timgad and the ruins at Tenes and Cherchell.
