Nurestan

Overview

Nurestan which means the land of light is located in North East of Afghanistan bordering the country of Pakistan. Nurestan was just a big town until late 2001 when after the fall of Taliban it became a province for the first time in the history of Afghanistan.

Nurestan is famous beacuse the Nurestanis are the last ethenic group in the whole Afghanistan which accepted islam. They accepted islam in late 1800s when Afghanistan was under the control of respectful King Abdul Rahman Khan who was a pushton from the city of Kandahar. He massacred thousands of Nurestanis and forced them to convert to islam.

Today Nurestan is a peaceful undestructed area of Afghanistan and the people are friendly and are good hosts.
