"Running with the Moon" - Jonny Bealby

Mountains of travel books are sold every year. Why is it that we are so fascinated by reading of other people's journeys?

It can allow us to relive journey's that we have lived and it can allow us to live journey's that we dream of living but don't dare tread. Through reading their words our imagination is taken on its own voyage; we are allowed to live a little from behind their eyes.

This book was given to me as a Christmas present and had me captured in the story for the proximate two days.

Still hurting after the death of his fiancée and needing change, Jonny Bealby seizes the opportunity to adventure to the realm of his childhood fantasies in Africa, deciding to make the trip with only his motorbike for company.

"Nowadays there is no empire to build and no relevant wars to fight; if you want adventure you've got to go out and find it."

The dream soon turns into reality and our hero finds himself in Tozeur in Tunisia, ready to ride the 10,000 miles of the African continent to Cape Town.

In a journey that takes him through Congolese jungles and Angolan war zones, his adventures are always absorbing and impossible to put down.

It would take a brave soul to undertake such a journey. For me this book definitely falls into the category of allowing me to live a dream that I don't dare tread.
